My husband, like any other man, was scrolling through Facebook Marketplace when he found a motorcycle. He asked me if he could buy and ride a motorcycle, and my view on bikes was that they are

dangerous

and

stupid.

I told him I wouldn't ever touch a bike, look at a bike, or even think about a bike ever.

One day, he was talking again about wanting a bike, so I was going to try reverse psychology and tell him he could have one. So when he asks, I think to myself, "Here is my chance, I'm gonna say yes, and then he's gonna drop the idea of getting a motorcycle," so I say nonchalantly, "Sure." Little did I know that he would go out immediately, pick up a motorcycle, and bring it home within the hour. I ignored it as best I could and pretended it didn't exist in the garage.

He one day told me to sit on it, trying to get me to like it more. He taught me how to use the throttle, and I was hooked. From that day forward, I began learning how to ride, to have something in common with my husband. I knew that it was something fun we could do together. My husband and both our families were worried I'd get hurt on the bike, so they weren't too supportive verbally, but my husband got me all the necessary gear. I began learning more on my own, to better my riding so that next time I got him to ride with me, he would see that I'm doing well enough that he won't have to worry.

I loved riding and was on my bike more than 8 hours a day, 6 times a week, to continue improving my riding. Absolutely nothing was going to stop me from riding. I met bikers while I was out on the bike, and they were important parts of my life coming up.

Let me know how you got into motorcycles, or if you grew up riding, what was your favorite bike you've owned or ridden?
